BEYOND IPANEMA
The feature documentary BEYOND IPANEMA: Brazilian Waves In Global Music is a mash-up of ideas about the cycle of discovery of Brazilian music around the world. Through exclusive interviews with David Byrne, Devendra Banhart, M.I.A., Os Mutantes, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Tom Zé, Seu Jorge, Thievery Corporation, Bebel Gilberto, CSS, Creed Taylor and many others, BEYOND PANEMA surveys the Brazilian music experience from Carmen Miranda through today. Artists, producers, DJs and critics analyze how cultural sampling and globalization; have helped Brazil to secure a unique position in modern global culture. Written and co-produced by Béco Dranoff and director Guto Barra.
RED HOT ORGANIZATION
The Red Hot Organization is a pro-social production company that created music based projects to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS prevention and education related NGO’s. To date Red Hot has produced 16 thematic compilations and has donated over U$ 10 Million to the fight against AIDS and it’s stigma.
SAMBISMO
Sambismo is a new and unique music production team created in New York City by Zé Luis Oliveira, Simone Giuliani and Béco Dranoff. Sambismo is a collective project including original recordings and featuring special guests such as Bebel Gilberto, Sabina Sciubba (Brazilian Girls), Lilian Vieira (Zuco 103), Celso Fonseca, Nina Miranda & Chris Franck (Zeep, Smoke City), Apollo Nove, Rose Max and Kay Lyra. The first album is titled ‘The Birth Of… Sambismo’ and is scheduled for a Summer 2011 release.
BRAZILIAN MUSIC COLLECTION @ The Archive Of Contemporary Music
Béco Dranoff and Bob George, founder of New York’s Archive Of Contemporary Music are currently collaborating on the project of organizing the biggest Brazilian music collection outside of Brazil for archival and research purposes. The official announcement will happen in 2011.
SONORIDADE
New York-based Brazilian music producer and A&R Béco Dranoff hosts this hour-long radio program dedicated to modern and classic Brazilian music. Each episode focuses on a theme or genre to bring listeners a fast-moving and inclusive panorama of the best in the rich plethora of Brazilian musical styles. Concentrating on the music and light on the talk–save the odd special interview or another–Sonoridade will entertain and educate novices and aficionados alike, broadening the appreciation of Brazilian music around the world.
ONDULAR
ONDULAR is a music production / remix / soundesign team based in New York City. Members are producer and multi-instrumentalist Flávio Lemelle and A&R/Producer Béco Dranoff. Ondular is dedicated to creating original and commissioned music and remixes that will promote new sensory experiences to it’s listeners. Clients include: Bebel Gilberto / Ziriguiboom, Seu Jorge / Sagatiba, Max Mara / GB65 Studio.
MAURICIO PESSOA | HABITAT
Mauricio Pessoa is a 32 year old singer-songwriter from Rio de Janeiro whose music is directly influenced by Brazilian greats such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Chico Buarque, João Gilberto and Paulinho Da Viola. In 2007, Mauricio released his self-titled debut album (Universal), acclaimed by critics as a “successful start for a Carioca artist with brilliant self-composed music” (Mauro Ferreira, ‘O Dia’). As a member of Brazil’s new music scene, Mauricio has performed in some of Rio’s most prestigious venues as well as important tribute concerts.
Pessoa’s second album ‘Habitat’, was produced and recorded in 2010 in New York by Zé Luis Oliveira and Béco Dranoff. The album’s concept and repertoire was selected from songs of his authorial repertoire and the core group is formed by Mauricio Pessoa (vocals and classic guitar), Zé Luis Oliveira (woodwinds and arrangements), Simone Giuliani (piano), Jim Robertson (acoustic bass) and Kenny Grohowsky (drums), plus a string quartet in three songs. The music on’Habitat’ reflects the Brazilian landscape, drawing inspiration from Pessoa’s experiences travelling back and forth between Brazil and the US, being heavily influenced by Bossa Nova, Samba and Jazz Standards. Pessoa currently lives in New York City.
